About Tia E. Jensen (f.k.a. Werdell), Attorney and Counselor at Law
Originally from Illinois, Mrs. Jensen graduated from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois with her Bachelors of Science Degree. Mrs. Jensen moved ot Florida and attended Nova Southeastern Law School graduating with her Juris Doctorate in 1994. After graduating, she served as an Assistant State Attorney in the Office of the State Attorney for the Twelfth Judicial Circuit for over nine (9) years. She handled misdemeanor cases, juvenile cases and felony cases.
During her time as a prosecutor, Mrs. Jensen was on the Domestic Violence Task Force. The rights of victims and families were of paramount concern.
In July, 2003, Mrs. Jensen began her own business as a family law practitioner. The transition from prosecutor to family lawyer was seamless, as the goal to aid families was of paramount concern. Her past jury trial experience gained as a prosecutor was invaluable for use in the family law courts to advocate for her clients.
Every year since beginning private practice, Mrs. Jensen has attended continuing legal education courses in Family Law, exceeding the minimum requirements of the Florida Bar. In 2014, Mrs. Jensen was trained in Collaborative Family Law. The collaborative law teams that she has served on have successfully resolved divorces.
Mrs. Jensen was mediation trained at the University of South Florida in June, 2015. She was parenting coordinator trained at the University of South Florida in August, 2015. She is a Qualified Parenting Coordinator in Sarasota County.
In addition to being a member of the Florida Bar, Mrs. Jensen is also a member of the Sarasota County Bar Association, and the Family Law Section of the Florida Bar and Sarasota Coutny Bar Association. She is a member and board member of Next Generation Divorce. She also servies on the board of directors for Samaritan Counseling Services of the Gulf Coast.
Mrs. Jensen has also taught a law class at Sarasota Military Academy, and has a passion to help teenagers. Mrs. Jensen is married to a retired police officer, Judd Jensen, and has two adult sons, Robert and Zachary Werdell, from her previous marriage. She is active with running, and has a background in martial arts.
